I got my start in this trade back in 2016, learning the ropes from my uncle, a master plumber who's spent years managing his own rental properties and others'. At the time, I was working offshore as a boat captain in the Gulf of Mexico, and I'd spend my time off working alongside him on properties. What started as a way to fill downtime turned into something I couldn't put down.

My first project was an investment property I bought while I was still renting my own place — and I fell in love with the process of taking something rough and making it right. Since then, I've bought and renovated more rental properties, taken on multiple flips of my own, and eventually turned that hands-on experience into a business: By The Book Handyman Services, which has since grown into By The Book Renovations.
